    • About Me
My first recollection of learning about intentions and the power of words was in the 3rd grade.  Our class was given an assignment to grow bean seeds in milk cartons.  With a suggestion from my mom, my assignment also became an unforgettable experiment.  I planted three bean seeds in three separate milk cartons – one seed I intended to speak positive words to, the next negative words to, and the third to ignore.  After planting, each was watered and placed on the window sill in my classroom to enjoy the sunlight.  Every day I diligently spoke kind words to the first such as "I love you, you are wonderful...".  The second received harsh words such as "I hate you, you are so ugly...".  And the third received no attention other than watering.  Being 9 and in the 3rd grade, I didn't have much in the way of expectations for the outcome of the experiment.  By the end of the assignment, however, I was rather amazed and intrigued by the results.  The bean that received the positive words had sprouted, broken through the soil and was growing up toward the sunlight.  It was a perfectly healthy bean plant.  The bean that received the negative words had not even begun to sprout.  The bean that was ignored had just barely sprouted, not even coming close to breaking through the soil.  Clearly my words and intentions towards these three little beans had had a dramatic impact on their growth; on their entire life.

Fast forward 15 years.  I stumbled upon a book on my parents' bookshelf – “Write it Down, Make it Happen” by Henriette Anne Klauser.  The book, as you can likely infer from the title, teaches about setting intentions and writing them down in order to make the things you want happen in your life.  One evening after reading the book, feeling a bit underwhelmed by my life, I began to write a list of my intentions and the things I wanted – in my work/career, in my mate, and material things.  At the time I had no idea how I would obtain these items.  To say they seemed out of reach would be an understatement. Nonetheless, I faithfully wrote my list and stuffed it away for safe keeping.  Again fast forward a few years.  While cleaning my closet one afternoon, I came across my long forgotten list.  As I read it, I could hardly believe my eyes.  Here in my life were many of the things from my list.  I hadn’t realized it, but probably close to 90% of my desires had come true!  I was working the exact hours that I’d wanted, in a job I enjoyed – as I’d written.  I also had the mate that matched almost exactly what I had written on my list.  There were also some of the material things; a boat, the exact car I’d always wanted – it truly was amazing!

Over the years, there have been countless other times in my life where I have seen the direct correlation between my thoughts and words, positive and negative, and the experiences of my life.  Once I became aware and started paying attention, it became much easier to identify.

I understand the idea of thoughts and words having a vibration and an effect on your life may seem a little out there to some people.  It's hard to know what another person's life has been like and what they have experienced or been taught.  For me, however, this is the truth.  There is no doubt in my mind because I have seen it.

Using positive words, setting intentions and practicing affirmations is part of the puzzle of life.  Doing so helps not only you, but everything and everyone around you.  Consider each day a new opportunity to practice the power of positive words and affirmations.   Together we will undoubtedly make a positive difference!

Namaste,

Amber
